If you were to pick a window of a flat anywhere in New York City to peer into, what would you see? A family? An office space? Maybe a pet or two? That is the very point of it. There is no right or wrong answer. Every window is an opportunity to see someone or something in a new light, and that is exactly what Eugenie Tung has created with the installation of “16 Windows”. This captivating installation invites its viewers to contemplate the lives of their natural New York family around them.  The artist Eugenie Tung, also known as Eugenie Packer, is a Hong Kong native born in the year 1977. She moved to the United States at the age of seventeen. After moving to Washington State, Ms. Tung attended classes at the Western Washington University and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2001. Minimalism

Minimalism is a very simple, yet distinguished art style that sells for thousands of dollars. But why? What makes these art pieces so desirable and so pulling to the eye? Around the 1960s, the Minimalism Movement struck momentum in New York, USA for its plain geometric configurations, use of industrial materials, and the use of realism in its purest form. Artists chose to represent traditional subjects in their simplest forms. Artists felt they needed a new subjectivity since Abstract Expressionism was seen as too complex to portray their artistic ideas.  Abstract Expressionism was considered a very personal and emotional form of art about the artist's emotional state where a brush stroke portrayed a specific state of being. Young artists turned away from Abstract Expressionism and instead focused on including less in their art, which in terms created a more minimalist, abstract art piece with more to interpret. Blacksmiths of Modernity is a Soviet-era mosaic located outside of the Institute for Nuclear Research, Ukraine, Kyiv. Most Western audiences can identify this piece because of its appearance in HBO’s Chernobyl , a limited series that portrays the horrors of the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Like most mosaics from this period, the key component of the piece is the smalti. Smalti are tiny pieces of opaque glass in various shapes.
